School Description:

Banjul American International School (BAIS), founded in 1984 as the Banjul American Embassy School, provides a friendly, cooperative, safe environment for English-speaking students of all nationalities from preschool through grade 9. It is the only externally accredited school and the only American based education system in The Gambia. With a low student/teacher ratio, teachers have a chance to know all students and address their individual needs. Field trips and local artists are used to enhance lessons and foster an appreciation of Gambian culture and society. The school maintains a strategic plan and follows a five year curriculum cycle when reviewing curriculum, ordering materials, and implementing new programs. In addition to the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, the curriculum integrates instruction in art, computers, French, music, and physical education. The school was awarded re-accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools from 2016-2023. The campus consists of administrative offices, a computerized library/multi media center, a fully networked computer lab, a science lab, and spacious classrooms with an independent primary wing, middle school wing, and Early Childhood Center.
