The American Community Schools of Athens (ACS Athens) is a private, non-profit pre-K-12 institution, governed by a 18 member Board of Trustees (3 Members are elected by the Parents, 6 Members are appointed by the Board, 6 Members (who are U.S. residents) are appointed by the Board, and 3 Members are appointed by the currently serving U.S. Ambassador in Greece) which has served the children of the American, international and local communities in the Athens area since 1945. Guided by a strong vision of high expectations rooted in solid values, the schoolapos;s policies and practices governing curriculum design, teaching practices, operating procedures and human interactions are shaped by the values implicit in its mission statement.
The mission of ACS Athens as an international school, is to embrace the American educational philosophy, principles and values. ACS Athens provides a student-centered environment where individuals excel academically and develop intellectually, socially and ethically to thrive as healthy, responsible members of global society.

From JK through grade 12, the learning experience at ACS Athens has been designed to develop each studentapos;s creative and critical thinking skills; life-long learning habits; sound scientific and mathematics aptitudes; ability to express him/herself clearly orally, in writing and through the arts; knowledge of the other cultures; appreciation for the value of the study of the past; mastery of the tools of technology; physical well-being; sense of responsibility; and citizenship and leadership skills. The Elementary and Middle School programs emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to learning and are taught by certified professionals working in teaching teams. All graduates of the ACS Athens Academy (grades 9-12) earn a US high school diploma (students must earn twenty-six Carnegie units, including successful completion of four years of English and Social Studies, three years of Math, Science and Foreign Language, two years of Physical Education and one year of Fine/Performing Arts and Computer Technology). Academy students carry a full academic load of seven courses per semester.

The core curriculum is supplemented by a co-curricular program of cultural, social, service and athletic activities in all three schools. ]]>
